[Being pinned to the mat with a knife pressed to his neck. But then... It's exactly what he expected of Yulia. So he smirks, because he's a little shit without any self-preservation instincts.]
Otlichno, comrade Bostova. Zangyaku won't know what hit them when you join...
[Kaz stays perfectly still as he says this, it took him most of the night to learn to pronounce 'well done' in Russian, and it's a compliment that he means. Yulia saved his life more than once during the Amrita fight, and that's what holds the frustration of losing at bay. He knows she's amazing. Which is why he talks again without hesitation.]
I take it you can tell me exactly what I'm doing wrong?
[ When the lanterns light up, Yulia realizes that it's just the two of them in... wherever this was. An abandoned cabin, probably. This worries her more now, especially after Hikaru's reply.
It meant that Wolf's Choice and the War Hounds could still be out there, fighting. She figures it was that; if they had retreated, she and Hikaru would not be holed up here.
She's quiet for a while longer, trying to assess everything, and trying to find the right words to say. Resistant injuries are a bitch to handle when you're trying to think. ]
I owe you my life again, it seems.
[ She wants to ask why he didn't just leave her in the battlefield to die. She does not mind going out that way; she's always figured she would die in a battle, even when she wasn't a Bladian yet.
She doesn't ask him that, just yet. It would be... rude. ]
[And he means it. As things stood, his reasons were neatly divided between selfless and selfish. Ethically, nobody really deserved to die and everybody deserved a chance. On the other hand, it wasn't like he could stand having another person that he knew personally die on his watch.]
[ She wants to tell him, to insist, that yes of course she owes him. She owes him practically everything. Instead, she just sighs. She knows that they're both stubborn enough that if she pushed, they would go nowhere. That's never fun. ]
She did huff and cross her arms as Taning flailed his arms about in explanation. And then she promptly ignored him the rest of the way. At least, Anya comforted her, it wasn't as bad as it was in Mexico.
It made Yulia hiss.
She was calmer, though. Not as angry as she used to be, although still a bit irritable. She didn't feel the need to punch Taning's nose in is face, or the urge to cut him into ribbons. That would be... progress. (Josh would be proud.)
Yulia frowned when Taning opened her door with his magic. She could never understand why he kept insisting to show off like that. He had hands, he should use them. Idiot.
"We just happened to walk in the same direction," she said. Which she really didn't mean to say-- it was different in her head, but her mouth ran off before her thoughts could form properly.
Ah well.

[Kaz sits up unsmiling. Ouch. He was going to be sore for the rest of the week.]
Everything, huh?
[He can't say he's surprised she'd say that, and he flinches at her frown a little, maybe not the best way to ask her. The only thing he could be good at is parkour, and clearly, that didn't faze her at all. He's putting his weapons away when he speaks up again, voice neutral.]
Thank you. It's been an enlightening fight. I have a lot more to learn, and... I guess, not a lot of time to learn it all. So if you'd have me, I'd like to learn from you.
Why did I open that that door with magic? Oh yes, because I don't want to be anywhere close to Yulia when I do gentlemanly things for her. She has a propensity for hitting people.
"Sure we did." He smiles. He did, after all, enjoy the walk. "Well, see you."
Taning started walking away. He thought it a high privilege indeed to be able to show your back to Yulia Bostova after you have annoyed her and not worry for your life. It means she respects you, or considers you a friend.
Then again, Taning thought, it's just as likely she thinks you're not worth the trouble.
Taning turned back before he got to his door.
"It was nice, talking to you. You should do that more often. We'd all like to know you more, you know?" He nodded, once, mostly to himself. "Anyway..." he trailed off, as he turned back to open his door, and shut it as he stepped in.
Ah, right. She had almost forgotten about that. There was a lot to read in that assignment, but it did mention his involvement with Inquisitor Delacroix-- and yes, it was that long ago.
She let the conversation drop again; she was never one for conversations or small talk anyway (but she does listen). She remained quiet as they walked through the small park, until they reached the river. That was also when she looked at Hikaru again.
"Should not be long, now. Bar is just across bridge."
Walking around is always nice, but the moment, he felt, called for some good drinks in good company. He smiled at Yulia, studying her in his usual fashion.
"You should bring your blade here sometime. They'll enjoy themselves, I think."
[ She nods, reminded again of every part of her that refuses to feel anything but pain. There's a lot, but she could pinpoint four parts (other leg, the cut along her arm, her ribs, and a shoulder blade) that refuses to be ignored. She barely even remembers how she got most of her injuries. ]
I will definitely not try that again, if it will always feel like death spat you out of his own mouth. [ A pause. ] No offense.
His expression is curious; his smile, indulgent. If she doesn't want to pursue the topic, he'll drop it. Of course, he brought it up in the first place for a reason.
[ She's confused, at first, and then a little flustered (panicked) after what Hikaru said finally sinks in. ]
You do not have to. [ She wants to tell him that she deserves the shit condition she's in for being careless. She shuts up about it, though. ] But I would like a drink and a smoke.
[And, after sliding a pack and lighter in her direction, he's getting up and heading towards his bag. He always had at least a bottle with him, beyond the usual canister.]
"It does seem that way." If she sighed, she timed it well that it seemed a huff of breath. It did not bother her too much. She would go where her Blade would lead her, personal issues aside.
"Nothing wrong with Asia." Which was true to her, at least. Anywhere was better than Russia.
[Kaz actually tries to keep the smile at bay, because he had been expecting a flat out no.]
I can keep up, as long as you push. We both know I can't afford to get lazy. I don't...
[He pauses, then, because at the end of that sentence were the words I don't want to be dead weight. He sighs and sheathes his weapons, she would appreciate honesty, maybe.]
I don't want to be the one that holds us all back.
How will I smoke, [ Her good hand, her free hand reaches for the pack. She clumsily manages to slip a stick out and place it between her lips. Then she reaches for the lighter. ] if I do not move?
[ She lights up, takes a long, deep drag, and exhales. That, while actually somewhat detrimental to her health, felt really, really good. ]
"Isn't that the problem? That there's nothing wrong with Asia."
If only Hikaru could show Yulia the number of complaints he received on a regular basis from his operatives. Many oni-tsukai were, at this point, bored to death in their respective locations.
