I want some company on perimeter patrol. An'yu isn't available this time, and my husband's out again.

Oh. [ Blinks. ]

Alright. [ She leaves the unasked question hanging in the air: Why me? ]

[kalikat]

Suit up and meet me at the gates?

[And she's already pushing herself off the wall and heading towards the exit. If you don't ask, she's not gonna explain~]

Alright.

[ She'll... have to ask later, then. Subtly. She'll figure out why, one way or another.

It doesn't take too long for her to gear up and join Kalika at the gates. ]

[kalikat]

[She's ditching her stick now, since Yulia has come around. Canting her head in the direction of the path, and then setting off.]

We'll walk. Best to take this sort of thing slow anyway.

[bostova]

[ Yulia catches up and matches Kalika's pace, her hands clasped behind her back. She'll just be silent and wait. If there was anything that Kalika needed from her, it would come up. Eventually. ]

[kalikat]

[She lets that go on for a bit before eventually glancing over her shoulder with one lifted eyebrow.]

Walk beside me. I can hardly talk to you that way.

[bostova]

My apologies. [ She's walking beside Kalika now. ] You wanted to talk?

[kalikat]

Yep. Been keeping up with your progress through reports, but I figured it'd be better to ask you in person. How are you doing?

[bostova]

I am doing fine. I am enjoying my stay here. [ Pause. ] Cisco has been mentoring me, under the Whisperers.

[kalikat]

She did seem like the only one who could handle you.

[Half-teasing, but also with an undertone of understanding. It's almost like she totally gets what you mean because she might have BEEN that girl in the past.]

[bostova]

[ She smiles at that. ]

She did say she had to rescue the girl partnered with me. [ Well, not exactly, but yeah. Pretty much. ]

[kalikat]

[Chuckles.]

That does sound like a Cisco thing to say.

[Speaking with open fondness of the Reynardi now. Whodathunk, given the fact that Kalika is kind of really a jaguar.]

[ Yeah, Yulia agrees. ]

I like her. I did not think we would get along.

[kalikat]

Oh? What made you think that?

[She can guess, but it well. Conversation is always a Thing.]

[ She looks at Kalika and gives her a wry smile. ]

I am not the type to get along with everyone, Magistrate.

[kalikat]

[Chuckling.]

Fair enough. I think that's something that you and I have in common, though.

[And giving you a smile of her own.]

[ She tilts her head back a little. From what she can tell, Kalika might be a hardass, but compared to her, the Magistrate does better at socializing ]

I don't think I see that.

[kalikat]

That's only because I'm well into my sixties and not the wild little shit that I used to be.

[Oh. Wait.]

Okay, so I'm STILL wild. But now I'm also old.

[Heh.]

[bostova]

Well, you look really good for someone in her sixties.

[kalikat]

It's a Changing Breed thing. Side benefits.

[Chuckles.]

Anyway, being human takes practice for people like us. Cisco helped me a lot with that... she was one of my first friends outside of Zangyaku.

[bostova]

She does have a certain way of suddenly... wheedling herself into your life.

[ She's amused, smiling. She knows she probably does need a few more friends, and Cisco is definitely a friend to her as well. ]

[kalikat]

She does, doesn't she?

[So very amused.]

It's hard to believe that I was so angry at her for a time. I had my reasons, though.

[bostova]

[ Admittedly, she's curious, but she won't pry. ]

Everything worked out in the end, at least.

[kalikat]

Generally. I just console myself with the thought that it could have been worse.

[Canting her head at Yulia.]

You can ask her about it someday, or she'll end up telling you. She seems to trust you, at any rate.
